How It Works

Record Verification
We verify that the required vital records exist and confirm your path to Canadian citizenship. During these first 7 days we hold off on ordering anything — giving you time to upload any documents you already have on your end (like a parent's birth or marriage certificate) so we don't order duplicates.
Within 7 days
Obtain Vital Records
We handle everything — reaching out to government agencies and obtaining all necessary birth, marriage, and death certificates on your behalf. If you already have any records, you can optionally upload them below to speed things up. Government processing times vary and change constantly, so these timelines can't be guaranteed.
6–9+ weeks to receive all government vital records
Application Preparation
Once all records are in hand, we prepare your complete citizenship application package for submission.

Ongoing Updates
We'll email you every time we locate and obtain a vital record. Watch your inbox for updates from our team.

Your Identification

Why we need this: Government agencies require proof of identity and direct lineage before releasing vital records. Your ID and birth certificate let us prove who you are and start the chain connecting you to your Canadian ancestor. Without these, agencies will not process our requests on your behalf.

Your Birth Certificate

⚠️ Must be the long form with both parents' names listed. Short-form or wallet-size certificates don't show parents and can't be used — if yours doesn't name both parents, you'll need to order the long form from your state's vital records office.

Your Family Line

Uploading is optional — our team will track down and obtain all the records listed below. If you happen to have any on hand, uploading them can help speed things up, but it's not required.

Add Notes

Tell us anything about names, places, marriages, records, family stories, or possible corrections that could matter for your case.

Upload Additional Documents

Have a document that isn't listed above? You can upload it here — birth certificates, immigration papers, naturalization records, photos, or anything else you think might be helpful for your case.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does the entire process take?+
Timelines vary from case to case. Record verification takes about 7 days, obtaining the government vital records typically takes 6–9+ weeks, and we prepare your application within about 1 week after all records are in hand. Government processing times are outside our control and change constantly, so the vital-records stage in particular can't be guaranteed.
How will I know when a record is found?+
We send you an email update every time we locate and obtain a vital record. You'll also see the status change here in your portal — check back anytime to see your latest progress.
I already have some records. Can I upload them?+
This is completely optional — our team will track down and obtain all the records for you. But if you already have any birth certificates, marriage certificates, or other vital records on hand, you can upload them using the "Have this? Upload" button next to each document above. It can help speed things up, but don't worry if you don't have anything — that's what we're here for.
What if a record can't be found?+
In rare cases, a record may not exist or may have been destroyed. If that happens, we'll work with you on alternative documentation paths and let you know your options. Our team has experience navigating these situations.
How do I contact the NorthClaim team?+

Affidavit of Direct Lineage Signature Required

A sworn statement we use to request your family's vital records from government agencies. Please review the document below and sign it digitally so we can release these records on your behalf.
Why we need this: State and provincial vital records offices (Maine, Florida, Quebec, etc.) require a sworn affidavit of direct lineage before releasing the birth, marriage, and death records of your ancestors. Once you sign, we attach this document to every records request we send out — it speeds things up significantly.
